OUR PROGRAM FEATURES
Discovery Time Learning Center provides much more than just child care and daycare services. When you join our program, you join a school community committed to supporting and empowering the children and families that we serve.
Our Center's Unique Features
Safe and Secure Center
Your child's safety is our #1 priority.
Our facility has the highest program safety precautions including on-site security cameras, telephones in every room, a secure entry system at our school's entrance, CPR & MAT certified staff, monthly practice of safety drills, and on-going program safety training for our team.
Cameras in Every Classroom
Our parent-accessible classroom cameras help parents stay connected to their child during the day. You will be able to watch live video of your child learning, playing, and interacting throughout the day by logging in securely from a computer or WatchMeGrow's mobile app while on the go.
Passionate Teaching Team
We can't say it enough - we have the best teachers anywhere! Our teachers are extremely caring, compassionate, and committed and we wouldn’t have it any other way. In 2016, our teachers completed triple the amount of training required by state licensing. This is more than a job - it’s an opportunity to share our life's passion.
Nutritious Catered Meals
Your child will enjoy a catered breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack daily.
A vegetarian option is available for children with special dietary needs. In addition, an allergen menu is provided each month for children with allergies. Meals are provided in the cost of tuition starting in the toddler room.
Awesome Learning Events
Your child will experience awesome learning events from community partners like Alexandria's Children's Dentistry, Our Local Police Department, DASH, The Reptile Guy, FunFitastic, Duncan Library, and more! This is all in addition to our weekly spanish, music, piano, gymnastics, and soccer enrichment!
Our center is nationally accredited. This means we exceed traditional licensing standards and are experts at providing your child with the best early childhood education available. Don’t settle for just daycare – give your child the best start in life with our quality educational programs.
Saturday Parents' Night Out
You will love our Saturday Parents' Night Out. Throughout the year, parents' night out is offered to give our families time to complete last minute holiday shopping, enjoy a dinner date, or simply to have a few quiet hours at home. These events typically take place one Saturday each month from 4:30 to 8:30.
Daily Photos & Reports
Our parents enjoy receiving pictures of their child and messages about their child's day through our secure mobile app. In addition to learning about your child's day at afternoon pick-up, our teachers document your child's development in an electronic portfolio that is accessible to each parent.
In addition to maintaining an open door policy, we invite our families to take part in special events at our school. Our most popular events include our Fall Festival & Costume Parade, Mystery Reader Visits, Field Trips to the Zoo and Pumpkin Patch, Summer Field Day, and Class Holiday Parties.
Extra - Curricular & Enrichment Activities
Preschool Spanish Class: Hola Amigos! Our weekly Spanish enrichment is included with tuition and begins in our preschool classroom. Each week, our Spanish teacher leads our children the language through music, art, song and dance, and theatrical performances as part of Spanish Enrichment.
Music & Piano Class: Our Music for Life music program teacher visits every classroom each week to immerse little musicians in a varied musical experience. Children have opportunities to sing, sign, dance, listen, and play instruments from all over the world. Children in our preschool program are offered the additional opportunity to begin piano lessons and love performing at our Spring Music Recital.
PowerTots and Gymnastics Class: In our weekly gymnastics class, children are exposed to a range of special motor skills with a clear emphasis on the joy of movement, evident by Ms. Kelly's energetic enthusiasm. The PowerTots program is designed to encourage whole body exercise, including development in strength, flexibility, and coordination for children 18 months and older.
Excite Soccer Class: Each week, Coach Kay from Excite Soccer visits children 2 and older for an exciting outdoor soccer class. Excite Soccer offers a balanced and creative approach to coaching to enhance your child’s overall growth and well-being. Children learn individual skills and teamwork and are encouraged to develop their physical, mental, and social abilities through exciting soccer activities
Flexible Enrollment Options - In addition to our full time program, we are pleased to offer a part-time two day and three day program for children 16 months old and older. Drop-in and back-up care is available for children 2 and older based on space availability. Both programs offer care over a full-day. Families interested in drop-in care must preregister for our program.
Our Community Involvement
Community Giveback - Discovery Time is proud to receive recognition from Alexandria's Early Childhood Education Coop Program, Alexandria'a Workforce Development Center, and Springfield's WBDC. One of our greatest accomplishments has been our recognition for providing scholarship support to graduating seniors at T.C. Williams High School through Project Discovery and The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria. To date, Discovery Time has provided more than $20,000 in merit and needs based scholarships since opening in 2014.
"I love the teachers, the inclusion of families, the holiday activities, the variety of activities offered, and the effort the staff went through to get us back to school even when city schools were closed. It was truly a big help and very appreciated."

(2016 Family Feedback Survey)
"I am in love with my child's current teachers and the teachers in the future classrooms. The curriculum and balance of learning and play is impressive. My child is not even two years old and can count to 10 and recognize colors and letters in the alphabet. PNO is a blessing to us."
